About JIM HERR

Jim is a seasoned broadcast technician with over 15 years of hands-on experience in live television production. He brings a wealth of technical expertise and creative insight to the Jacobs Institute, where he oversees all aspects of the organization’s audiovisual infrastructure.

Jim began his career in the fast-paced world of news photography at Buffalo’s ABC and NBC affiliates. There, he honed his craft and work ethic, earning two Emmy Award nominations, two New York State Broadcasters Association awards, and multiple honors from the Associated Press and National Press Photographers Association.

At the JI, Jim plays a pivotal role in operating and maintaining the institute’s state-of-the-art broadcast facility - uniquely embedded within the endovascular suites at Kaleida Health’s Gates Vascular Institute. His responsibilities range from coordinating live clinical broadcasts and recording surgical procedures, to supporting engineering test session video conferences and livestreaming high-profile promotional events.

In addition to his daily responsibilities, Jim leads the technical production team, directs the real-time flow, and designs the visual identity for the Jacobs Institute’s flagship medical conferences held annually in Jackson Hole, Wyoming: the Cerebrovascular Complications Conference (3C) and the Nick Hopkins Complications Conference (NHCC).

Jim holds a degree in Communication and Media Arts from SUNY Erie. Outside of work, he’s an avid mountain biker and active member of the Western New York Mountain Bicycling Association. He also holds the distinction of being a life member of the historic Pine Hill Drum and Bugle Corps - New York State’s oldest firefighter drum corps.

A lifelong resident of Cheektowaga, Jim shares his home with his wife, Jessica, and remains deeply connected to the Western New York community he proudly serves.
